Highlight of the Week
I would like to congratulate all students that attended the Grade 1 / 2 Sleepover last Friday night. For many of our students this was their fist time staying away from home and with that comes a combination of nerves and excitement. I think it takes great courage and resilience to do anything outside of your comfort zone and I was really proud to see some of our youngest members of the community taking on the challenge with such gusto. A huge thank you to all of the staff the planned for the sleepover, attended and made the night such as huge success and memorable experience for the students.
Tomato Plant Fundraiser
I distinctly remember a staff member coming into my office on my second day at Bunyip to ask if I was interested in purchasing a tomato plant as part of a fundraiser. I said yes uncommittedly at the time but soon realised in the days and weeks that followed we were not just talking about any fundraiser, but the Tomato Plant Fundraiser at Bunyip Primary School was a thing of legend, a pivotal event on the calendar. I continue to be taken aback by the community we have at Bunyip and this is so evident in the kindness, generosity and work that the Millis family put into making this fundraiser such a huge success for our school. I would like to give a huge thank you to the Millis Family and Flavorite Tomatoes for making this fundraiser possible and look forward to sampling the guaranteed quality of the produce over summer.
Student Free Day
A reminder that Tuesday 29th November is a Staff Curriculum Day and subsequent student free day.
School Uniform Purchasing
Our uniform arrangements with A PLUS SCHOOLWEAR will transition to an online environment from December 1st this year. Essentially, ordering will occur through the A PLUS SCHOOLWEAR website and then the uniform will be available for collection from the School Office in the following week. The school will continue to have a variety of sizes onsite to allow families to try on uniform for correct sizes prior to ordering online.
The purchasing of School Uniform will continue as per normal up until November 30th with the online ordering system becoming active from the 8th December. We will send out more detailed information across the next few weeks about how this will look and how the ordering process will work.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after World War I. Over the past century, this moment has been adopted across the globe as a time to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts.
A selection of Students and Staff lay a wreath today at The Bunyip War Memorial on behalf of our school to honour, pay our respects and show gratitude to the brave souls that sacrificed so much for our future.
Learning Community 1
This week in Prep Guy we have been very busy completing assessments for end of year reports. We have some very resilient racoons in our room! Students have really been extending themselves and showing all that they have learnt this year. I am so proud of all students for never giving up and trying their absolute best. On Thursday we welcomed our newest students to our wonderful school. Kinder students came into Room 5 to learn about dinosaurs and Remembrance Day. They got to choose what they then made; a dinosaur or a poppy. Prep Guy also learnt about Remembrabce Day on Friday making poppies to remember those who served in wars.
Prep Guy Student Of The Week
Because of the short week last week, Miheli is our student of the week again this week.
Mrs Jane Guy.
1/2 Smith & Stark
This week in the 1/2 area has seen us begin some formal assessments to help with report writing. Our assessment is ongoing throughout the year, but we use this time to check in on retained knowledge. Students have completed a number of online assessments in all curriculum areas and have been completing revision work throughout the week.
We have focused on addition and subtraction as well as written some information reports about Australian animals. We've also practiced the reading and spelling of some common words and looked at types of words being nouns or verbs.
We have been very impressed with everyone's efforts this week.
Our student achievers this week are Luke, Noah and Isla.
Mrs Kelly Smith, Miss Nicole Stark, Ms Liz Wahl, Ms Kris Preston, Mrs Melissa McCoy.
Grade 3 Beilby
This week has been hugely successful with our students in Grade 3 completing assessments in preparation for reports. They have worked really hard and should be proud of their efforts, I know I am!
Reading, Writing and Maths have all been combined this week as the students have begun to work on their Passion Projects. Together we discussed activities that would be engaging and interesting and created a choice board. Students have been working through the activities in any order they choose and have been creating Projects about something they are passionate about.
I’m looking forward to seeing the finished products of these. We have some really creative Dioramas and Board games underway and the Power Point Presentations look incredible.
Mrs Jess Beilby.
Learning Community 2
This week in LC2 we worked on a free choice project. Students were able to decide on a topic of interest that they were then able to research and produce a range of tasks on. This included bookmarks, posters, PowerPoints, scripts for a performance and many more. In addition to this, students have completed a range of assessments across all curriculum areas. This week students engaged in sport learning about techniques of cricket. This included the correct bowling technique and batting. Today we completed activities in relation to Remembrance Day.
Mrs Sarah Munday, Miss Maxine Howard, Mrs Glenys Howard, Mr Anthony Craig, Mrs Leanne McKane, Miss Brooke Jansz.
Gardening & Cooking Club
We have been busy planting tomato plants which were donated by Flavorite. Thank you to Skye for these plants. Hopefully we get to cook with our fruits before the end of the year. We also worked on our special mosaic and garden for Mrs Whyatt's retirement.
Parents & Friends
There will be a Parents & Friends Meeting on Friday 25th November 2022 at 9.10am in Room 4 if anyone would like to join them. Small children are welcome.
